PE and Games
At Sherborne Qatar we believe that Physical Education plays a key role in harnessing the potential of each child. Through PE and sport we aim to develop children personally and socially with emphasis on concepts of fairness, sportsmanship and more importantly personal and social responsibility. Through the range of experiences PE offers, children learn to be effective in competitive, creative and challenging situations. The aim that every child can succeed, be it at a very competitive or personal level, ensures that the curriculum is centered around the students as individuals and ensures that we offer as broad a curriculum as possible.
The After School Activity programme also enables us to extend the sports provision by offering more diverse options such as Sailing or Taekwondo. We are very fortunate that Qatar attracts the very best sports people from around the world and opportunities for children to see firsthand some of sports' elite athletes are never missed. The Doha Tennis Championships, football: England vs. Brazil, The Golf Open and many more events have all been attended by Sherborne students (and parents!) on organized field trips. Through such events, and in every PE lesson, we aim to inspire young children to strive to be the best whilst encouraging lifelong participation for an active and healthy lifestyle.
As early as reception, children are expected to refine skills through play activities which support overall physical development, more importantly children are encouraged to develop as confident learners which becomes an integral part of their lives in and out of school.
"To be the best you can be" is the PE department's goal that is shared by staff and students alike.
