Innovation & Digital Learning

These digital packages are carefully selected to align with the British Curriculum and support our teaching methodologies. They provide interactive and engaging content that helps our young pupils grasp complex concepts effectively. Our teachers integrate these resources seamlessly into their lessons, ensuring a dynamic and interactive learning experience for every child.

Here's how we ensure a comprehensive and engaging education at our Preparatory Schools:

Enhanced Learning with Digital Packages including bring your own device programme across all Preparatory schools.

Technology-Infused Learning

In every Year Group, lessons are enhanced through the planned use of technology. Our classrooms feature interactive whiteboards, individual monitors, and connectors in dedicated ICT spaces. Each pupil brings their own Microsoft Surface Device to school, fostering a seamless integration of technology into their learning journey. Additionally, our VR room allows classes to access virtual and augmented reality experiences, further enriching their educational exploration.

Read Write Inc. (RWI) Phonics

Phonics instruction is a vital component of our curriculum, running from EYFS to Year 3. We use the well-regarded Read Write Inc. (RWI) Programme to systematically teach pupils to read. Through carefully selected books that align with the sounds they have learned, pupils gain confidence and develop a positive attitude towards reading. Phonics lessons take place in homogenous groups, ensuring effective skill development and steady progress.

Talk for Writing (TfW)

Our Preparatory Schools have adopted the Talk for Writing (TfW) approach, which focuses on developing writing, reading, and spoken language skills. This whole-school approach recognises how children learn and encourages them to internalise language structures through oral language activities and close reading. Each unit of learning follows a three-stage pedagogy, starting with an initial assessment and culminating in independent, creative writing that showcases each pupil’s abilities.

Enhanced Learning with Digital Packages including bring your own device programme across all Preparatory schools.

White Rose Maths (WRM) Framework

To cultivate confident mathematicians, we utilise the White Rose Maths (WRM) framework. Our lessons prioritise mastery, with pupils employing concrete, pictorial, and abstract methods to grasp mathematical concepts. Mathematical language is emphasised throughout lessons, ensuring pupils engage with the content, tasks, and resources, evident in classroom displays.

Online Platforms

We provide a range of online platforms to support our pupils' academic development. These include Accelerated Reader for personalised reading practice, STAR Reading Tests to monitor progress, Kutubee for access to digital resources, Century Tech for personalised learning experiences and TT Rockstars for improving times tables skills. These platforms enhance learning, promote independent study, and foster a positive and collaborative learning environment, ensuring our pupils have the tools they need to succeed academically.

Communication with Parents

We believe in the power of collaboration between home and school, and Class Dojo provides the perfect platform for us to work together as a team. With Class Dojo, parents stay connected and informed about all the exciting happenings at school, enabling them to actively participate in their child's progress and stay involved in their learning experience.

Teachers Well-Versed in the British Curriculum

Our teachers bring extensive experience in teaching the British Curriculum. They possess a deep understanding of the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) specific to their Year Groups and are well-acquainted with the standards pupils need to demonstrate to meet Age-Related Expectations or achieve Greater Depth.

Learning today, shaping tomorrow.

Innovation and digital learning are woven into everyday lessons at Sherborne. Pupils use creative technologies, digital tools and interactive resources to explore ideas, solve problems and deepen their understanding across subjects.

In Key Stage 2, pupils also take part in CUBE, a creative programme where they choose hands-on projects such as animation, robotics, art, music or design. Through these experiences, pupils develop digital skills while demonstrating Sherborne values such as creativity, curiosity, teamwork and resilience.

Pupils begin exploring digital tools from the Early Years (age 3 and above). Technology is introduced in age-appropriate ways that encourage curiosity, creativity and exploration. As pupils move through the Preparatory School, they gradually develop stronger digital literacy and problem-solving skills.

Pupils learn using a range of digital tools and technologies that support creativity, collaboration and exploration across subjects. Interactive whiteboards, creative media platforms, robotics and immersive technologies such as virtual reality help bring learning to life in the classroom.

From Upper Key Stage 2 onwards, pupils also bring their own Microsoft Surface device to school. This allows them to research, design projects, collaborate with classmates and develop strong digital literacy skills as part of everyday learning.

CUBE is a distinctive enrichment programme for Key Stage 2 pupils at Sherborne Qatar Preparatory School, Bani Hajer. Through CUBE, pupils choose from a wide range of creative and innovation-focused projects such as animation, robotics, art, music, woodwork, dance and drama.

CUBE stands for Create, Unlock, Broaden and Explore, encouraging pupils to discover new talents while developing confidence, curiosity and independence.

Creative learning encourages pupils to think independently, experiment with ideas and solve problems in imaginative ways. Through hands-on projects and collaborative activities, pupils develop important skills such as creativity, resilience, teamwork and leadership - all central to the Sherborne approach to education.

Yes. Pupils are introduced to coding, robotics and digital problem-solving through a range of technology-based learning experiences. As they progress through the Preparatory School, they learn to design projects, build simple programmes and experiment with robotics and digital media. These activities help develop logical thinking, creativity and confidence with technology.

Digital learning at Sherborne develops gradually as pupils grow in confidence and independence. In the younger years, children begin by exploring simple digital tools for creativity, storytelling and visual projects.

As pupils move into Key Stage 2, they build more advanced skills through multimedia projects, image and text editing, robotics and basic 3D design. In Upper Key Stage 2, pupils bring their own Microsoft Surface device to support research, collaboration and project-based learning across subjects.

Alongside classroom learning, pupils also take part in creative programmes such as CUBE (Create, Unlock, Broaden and Explore), where they can explore innovation through projects such as animation, robotics, art, music and design.

This progression helps pupils develop digital confidence, creativity and problem-solving skills as part of a well-rounded Sherborne education.
