Senior School Enrichment Activities
Discovering Your Child's Unique Path
At Sherborne School, we believe every pupil has extraordinary potential waiting to be unlocked. That's why we offer over 60 enrichment opportunities – because when children discover their passions, they develop confidence, skills, and joy in learning that lasts a lifetime.
Our extracurricular activities are central to building futures and developing the confident, capable leader your child is destined to become.
Beyond our four main pathways, pupils can challenge themselves through The Duke of Edinburgh's Award, volunteer at animal rescue centres, or pursue specialist interests like Warhammer and chess.
Our pupils showcase their talents through productions like Matilda and our popular Sherborne's Got Talent show, plus regular music concerts. Every pupil gets the chance to perform – whether they're natural stars or discovering hidden talents.
Most pupils embrace multiple activities with genuine enthusiasm, building confidence and friendships that last well beyond school.
Ready to see what's possible for your child? We're here to help them discover their unique strengths.
How many activities can my child participate in?
Most pupils participate in 2-4 activities weekly. We encourage variety to help discover your child's unique path, whilst ensuring a healthy balance with academic studies. Our flexible approach means pupils can explore different interests throughout the year.
What types of extracurricular activities do you offer?
We offer over 60 enrichment opportunities across four main pathways: Creative & Performing Arts (including recent productions like Matilda and Sherborne's Got Talent), Sports & Physical Excellence, Leadership & Global Citizenship, and Innovation & Future Skills.
From Duke of Edinburgh Award to volunteering at animal rescue centres, chess clubs to competitive sports - there's something for every interest.
Are activities suitable for beginners?
Absolutely. Whether your child is a complete beginner or already has experience, all our activities welcome pupils at their current level. Our teachers help every pupil develop their skills and confidence.
How do extracurricular activities support university applications?
Our comprehensive enrichment programme develops leadership, teamwork, and specialist skills that universities value highly. The Duke of Edinburgh Award, Model United Nations, and leadership roles are particularly prestigious additions to UCAS applications and scholarship opportunities.
What makes Sherborne's extracurricular programme different?
Our small in size, big in heart approach means every pupil gets individual attention rather than getting lost in the crowd. With smaller groups, pupils receive personalised coaching, build meaningful friendships across year groups, and have genuine opportunities to take on leadership roles.
When do the enrichment activities take place?
Enrichment activities run every afternoon of the school week, with some weekend opportunities for competitions and special events. Our flexible scheduling accommodates different interests and ensures pupils can participate in multiple activities.
Are there additional costs for activities?
Many activities are included in school fees. Some specialist activities or off-site experiences may have additional costs, which we communicate transparently to families. We believe cost shouldn't be a barrier to discovering your child's potential.
Do activities help with making friends?
One of the greatest benefits of our enrichment programme is how it builds friendships across year groups. Pupils working together on productions, sports teams, or service projects create lasting bonds that extend well beyond school.
How do you communicate about my child's progress in activities?
We keep families informed through regular updates, photo galleries, newsletters, and performance showcases. Our online ISAMs system allows you to track your child's participation, and our teachers are always available to discuss your child's development.
